The Deviant: A Chilling Holiday Horror Story
Multiple Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV (W0RLDTR33, The Department of Truth), acclaimed artist Joshua Hixson (The Plot, Children of the Woods), and award-winning letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou come together to bring you a pitch-black holiday horror story in The Deviant. The chilling nine-issue miniseries, set to launch in November from Image Comics, will immerse you in a gripping tale of terror.
As snow blankets the city of Milwaukee in 1972, a blood-stained Santa Claus perpetrates unspeakable atrocities against young men. Unfathomably disturbed, this sinister figure casts a chilling shadow over the holiday season.
Fifty years later, a troubled young writer takes on the task of interviewing the self-proclaimed “Deviant Killer,” a remorseless individual who vehemently maintains his innocence from behind the cold prison bars. However, as Christmas approaches once again, a malevolent force from the past resurfaces, gripping the city in fear and wielding a sharpened ax in hand.
For James Tynion IV, The Deviant serves as an opportunity to delve into the depths of a dark and focused psychological crime thriller, saying:
“The Deviant is something a little different. A dark, focused psychological crime thriller where I get to explore the intersection of my queer identity and a broader scope of cultural transgression and deviance. This is my response to Silence of the Lambs and Jeffrey Dahmer serving as my first real glimpses of my queer identity as a young closeted Midwestern boy. It’s one of the darkest and most personal stories I’ve ever written. It’s also a story about Christmas.”
Joshua Hixson expresses his enthusiasm for The Deviant, saying:

While I’ve been no stranger to the horror genre in my career of making comics, this story scratches a particular itch and is unlike anything I’ve been a part of.
