Sweet Tooth Has Been Renewed for a Third and Final Season
Netflix has announced that Sweet Tooth has been renewed for a third and final season on the streaming platform. The post-apocalyptic series that originated from DC‘s Vertigo imprint and was written by Jeff Lemire has been a fan-favorite since its first season premiered and introduced us to the ravaged world plagued by a virus that also introduced our race to a new breed of human-animal hybrids. The series saw young star Christian Convery headline the series as Gus, a half-deer human hybrid, exploring the nation with a newfound friend, Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie).
Many fans have been unhappy with the news. It only shows the love that the series has managed to win over the fandom but series creator, showrunner, and executive producer Jim Mickle assures fans that the series has not been canceled or cut short and that a 3-season arc has always been what the creators needed to wrap up the series, saying:
“In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life. At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going.”
Starring alongside Convery and Anozie is Adeel Akhtar, Stefania LaVie Owen, Dania Ramirez, Aliza Vellani, Naledi Murray, and Neil Sadilands. The third and final season of Sweet Tooth has already made casting moves as Rosalind Chao and Amy Seimetz get bumped up to series regulars as well as adding Cara Gee, and Ayazhan Dalabayeva join the cast.
The series has won over fans with a unique and faithful adaptation of a beloved comic series while also taking creative chances which have paid off. With the comic series’ main storylines still being a focal point in the adaptation, we know that the third and final season will take Gus and friends into the arctic storyline which Mickle shares will bring “exciting new adventures.”
You can check out the first two seasons of Sweet Tooth now exclusively on Netflix.
