Steven Yeun Reportedly Playing Sentry in Marvel’s Thunderbolts

It seems like Steven Yeun will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. According to Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, Yeun will be portraying the character known as the Sentry.

The Sentry, who is also known as Robert Reynolds, first appeared in the comic book series The Sentry #1 in 2000. This Marvel Knights miniseries consisted of five issues, followed by a series of flashback one-shots where the Sentry teamed up with popular characters like the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and the Hulk. The Sentry later became part of the New Avengers in 2005, and has also appeared in The Mighty Avengers and the Dark Avengers.

During an interview with David Finch, Kirkman opened up about who Yeun will be playing and goes on to spill on some details about the costume we may see Yeun wearing in the upcoming Thunderbolts film, saying:

“Yeah, he called me, he went in for a costume fitting, I hope I’m not… I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe. We’ll see. I don’t care. I don’t work for Marvel. What are they going to do to me?”

“Yeah, he called me and he said, ‘I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue.’ He said he was at the costume fitting and was like, ‘Aww, crap. I forgot Invincible was yellow and blue.'”

Thunderbolts is currently slated for a July 25, 2025, theatrical release with director Jake Schreier at the helm. The film sees many returning faces previously seen in other MCU projects including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is back Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Ayo Edebiri, whose recent breakout roles include Hulu’s The Bear and Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Mutant Mayhem has also joined the film in an unknown role.

Yeun is a phenomenal talent and can be seen in Prime Video’s Invincible which is currently streaming its second season. Stay tuned for more information on the Thunderbolts film and Yeun’s role
