Reviewed by Weird – Squish & Squash Book One: Save The Gimblemans
Sometimes, when you sit down to read, you are wanting to give your brain a bit of a break from the stresses of life. One big suggestion I would give is to maybe find something outside of your typical reading genre to help kind of reset your mind.

One way to do this is by reading something meant for readers younger than yourself. Stories written for teens and kids are sometimes overlooked because you may feel that you are too old for those kinds of stories, but oftentimes, these stories are some of the most fun! One of these books that I would like to suggest is Squish & Squash Book One: Save The Gimblemans!

Here’s the premise:
Squish and Squash are two young cadets trying to make it into the Intergalactic Search and Rescue Squad. In order to become rescuers, they must pass the difficult “Save the Gimblemans” simulation test. It’s not going to be easy, especially with tough Captain Twomey breathing down their necks. Breaking the rules and saving the crew from a burning galactic cruise ship lands our two cadets in trouble.
The duo are given one last chance to pass the test or be thrown out of the academy for good. Our adventurous heroes must find new and imaginative ways to earn their patch and become bona fide rescuers! Squish & Squash is a cartoony sci-fi adventure story about friendship and courage, perfect for readers of all ages!

Niall O’Rourke told an incredible story here, and a very relatable one. We’ve got two kids whose lifelong dream is to join the Intergalactic Search and Rescue Squad, but they just can’t seem to make it. They’ve got big hearts and definitely have the will, but being a rescuer is a tough job and sometimes, can be a bit scary. And it doesn’t help that Squish is constantly reminded that her dad made the team on his first try. But then, Squish is reminded in a dream of something her father used to say all the time, and it totally changes her perspective!
I’d say this book had a really great message, and with the amazing art and colors from Mike Hartigan, this all-ages book is sure to be a winner! Did Squish and Squash end up making the team? Only one way to find out! Check out this link on the Keenspot Comics website to pre-order your copy today before it hits store shelves this November!
