Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Trailer Unveils the Sci-Fi Epic Coming to Netflix

Netflix capped off Geeked Week 2023 with an exciting trailer for Zack Snyder‘s Rebel Moon. The Rebel Moon trailer showcases a thrilling and action-packed adventure as a group of rebels unite to thwart a grave threat from the Motherworld.

Rebel Moon is an ambitious 2-part movie event that has been in development for decades. The first part, titled Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire, takes center stage in this trailer. It introduces Sofia Boutella‘s character, Kora, a stranger with a mysterious background residing among peaceful farmers on the moon of Veldt.

When hostile ships enter Veldt’s atmosphere, Kora recognizes that these visitors bring nothing but trouble. They are invaders from the Motherworld who have discovered that the farmers unintentionally sold their crops to a group of insurgents. Despite the farmers’ innocence, they will suffer the consequences.

Driven by a sense of duty, Kora embarks on a quest to recruit fighters who will defend the people of Veldt. The trailer provides a glimpse into the individuals she seeks to enlist. Among them are Kai, played by Charlie Hunnam, a skilled pilot and gun for hire; General Titus, portrayed by Djimon Hounsou, a renowned commander; Nemesis, played by Doona Bae, a master swordswoman; Tarak, portrayed by Staz Nair, a captive with a regal past; and Milius, portrayed by E. Duffy, a valiant resistance fighter.

The official synopsis for Part One reads:

After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) — leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter.

Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

Additionally, the trailer briefly introduces Anthony Hopkins’ character, Jimmy. Jimmy is an ancient mechanized protector who has been discreetly observing from the sidelines. However, he awakens with a newfound purpose. The film also stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlotte Maggi, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, and Jenna Malone. Snyder helmed the film from a script written by himself alongside Shay Hatten, Kurt Johnstad, and many more.

Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire is set to release on Netflix on December 22, 2023. Part 2, titled The Scargiver, will follow on April 19, 2024. Check out the trailer below:
