Nights: New Urban Fantasy Series in the Vein of ‘Fright Night’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim’ Coming From Image Comics

Nights is an all-new, ongoing series from rising superstar writer Wyatt Kennedy and rising artist, Luigi Formisano, colorists Francesco Segala & Gloria Martinelli, and letterer Maria Letizia Mirabella. Set to launch in October, Nightfall is a new vision of an urban fantasy adventure series from Image Comics. Nightfall is a “vampy” new series that is a mix of Fright Night and Scott Pilgrim embellished with anime influences and gamer culture that follows a world where supernatural creatures co-exist in an alternative United States. Okonma’s life is about to change as they befriend “the greatest vampire who’s ever lived.”

Image Comics series description reads:

It’s 2003, Supernatural creatures casually exist amongst humans, and America is made up of 31 states. Vince Okonma has lost his parents, moved in with his secret mercenary cousin, his video game-making roommate, and befriends “the greatest vampire who’s ever lived.” And that’s just the first 20 pages. Welcome to Florida, youth is wasted on the young…

Kennedy shares that their goal with the series was to create the greatest Toonami show that never existed, saying:

“I basically wanted to make the greatest Toonami show that never existed. There’s so many bizarre genre-bending elements with horror, comedy, action, and romance, but the characters are the true heart of this story. Expect an episodic start to the ‘season’ as it were, but we’re ramping up to tell an incredible near apocalyptic event love story.

It genuinely feels like a limitless world and watching it brought to life with such care from one of my best friends, Luigi, Francesco (our colorist), Maria (our Letterer), my fantastic editor Alana Fox, and all the wonderful people at Image has been a dream come true. It’s gonna be a weird one, so buckle up!”

Taking influence from not only Fright Night and Scott Pilgrim and wrapping that up within anime and gaming culture is already a cornerstone for an incredibly fun and intriguing series. Throw in the alternate world being described with the talents of Kennedy and Formisano and the recipe for this series is *chef’s kiss*. The series looks to balance a sort of innocence found within the world and art of Scott Pilgrim but there are obvious undertones of something sinister lurking within this story. There is surely more to unpack once we get our hands on the debut issue!

Nights #1 will be available at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on October 11, 2023.
