Milly Alcock Cast as Supergirl in Gunn’s DCU
James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s DCU reboot has cast Milly Alcock, known for her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, as Supergirl. Alcock reportedly beat out Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly for the role, according to a report by Deadline.

It’s uncertain whether Alcock will appear in Superman: Legacy, but she is expected to feature in a different DCU film before taking on the role of the title character in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This new take on Supergirl, based on the 2022 comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, is set to focus on a very different portrayal of the character, showcasing a woman who “has gone through it all.” Ana Nogueira will write the film.
The official description for King and Bilquis’ Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow reads:
Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core.

Gunn and Safran have also cast other roles in the new DCU including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and David Corenswet as the Superman. Superman: Legacy, slated to kick off the ambitious DCU reboot, is expected to commence filming in March and is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
