Max Beyond: A Riveting Sci-Fi Adventure Across Parallel Universes
In the wildly refreshing new animated action-thriller Max Beyond, audiences are taken on a mind-bending journey through parallel universes where a young boy, Max, battles against time and reality to find the version of his world where he and his brother, Leon, can be together again. The film from HaZimation is available on digital platforms today, April 23rd.
Max is a boy with a unique ability—he can create rifts in the fabric of spacetime, allowing him to traverse parallel universes. This power could be his salvation, but it’s also a curse, leading him to witness his brother’s death repeatedly as he attempts to find the one reality where they can both survive. The toll of these repeated failures starts to weigh on Max and Leon, threatening to tear them apart, even in success.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Max discovers that his captors are manipulating his powers, using his efforts to control him. This realization forces Max to shift his focus from merely rewriting the end of his story to altering its very beginning, setting the stage for an intense and emotionally charged journey.
Max Beyond boasts a stellar cast, including BAFTA-award-winning actress Jane Perry, known for her roles in Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman, Dave Fennoy from The Walking Dead, and Cade Tropeano from Black Bird. The film also features motion capture performances by Ace Ruele, known for his role in Eternals, and Alex Kong, who has worked on Marvel Studio’s What If?
Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull, the film’s director, co-writer, and co-producer, has established a reputation for innovative storytelling in the sci-fi genre, with credits including Disney’s Fast Layne and the indie sci-fi features The Beyond and 2036 Origin Unknown. Max Beyond is co-written by Stavros Pamballis and co-produced by Paula Crickard, who has worked on Jolt and The Protege.
“What if you could reset dimensions to find the right moment that will save your brother, but the more you do it, the weaker you get?” asks writer-director HaZ. He invites audiences to strap in for a rollercoaster ride filled with high-octane action, edge-of-the-seat thrills, and emotional moments that make Max Beyond a unique cinematic experience.
The film’s immersive atmosphere is enhanced by a music score by Miroshot, a band renowned for its experiential music, as showcased at SXSW 2022. The film’s executive producers include Yariv Lerner, known for his work on Rambo: Last Blood, and Amy Gardner, producer of Identicals, among others.
