Mac Sabbath and Cybertronic Spree Deliver Serving of More Than Meats the Eye Tour in Desert Southwest

More than Meats the Eye Tour

Mac Sabbath once again toured the U.S. for a second time this year. The first time the Geek Network crew saw them was back in the beginning of 2023 in February. Oh, and you best believe they brought more antics on this tour. But before we dive into that let’s talk about their openers Cybertronic Spree and Phoenix natives Playboy Manbaby who left the desert to join Mac Sabbath to provide the sounds of drive-through metal from coast to coast.

Playboy Manbaby hails from the local Phoenix music scene. They’re known for their catchy indie music sounds, and for creating music for kindness. However, like Mac Sabbath, they like to also have their fair share in some theatrics. In previous shows, they have brought a microwave on stage to warm up food, throw certain items like “Hot Pockets” at the crowd, or start eating competitions mid-performance.

Their lyrics aren’t are also random as hell, or tend to make fun of conspiracy theories for instance one song is just based on the theory that the government is run by lizard people. Though not many outrageous acts occurred on this show they still brought the energy, and their catchy sometimes funky lyrics to the stage, to get everyone up moving, and grooving.

The Nile was blessed with having their lives spared because from the skies the Decepticons descended onto the stage, not to exterminate the audience but to bring us together by the sound of music! The band consists of Arcee on vocals/keyboard, Hot Rod on the bass and backup vocals, Shockwave on the drums, Unicron on the rhythm guitar, Quintesson on lead guitar, lastly, we have Soundwave as the hypeman, and supporting keyboard.

The only blowing up that they did was blow the roof off the venue with their amazing covers of Led Zeppelin (Immigrant Song) to covering the Mortal Kombat theme, “The Touch” by Stan Bush, the Transformers theme song, and of course some of their original music from their debut album “Ravage.” the west coast leg of the tour might be over, but if they ever roll out to a city near you, make sure that you make some time to go see them.

From the other bowls of outer space Mac Sabbath also landed down at The Nile and blessed us with their drive-thru metal. With their return this year, they premiered three new songs, 1 original, and two new parodies. Ronald Osbourne had all new jokes written down while the band prepped to transition over to the next song, which was quite refreshing not to mention when he was gracias to spray bottle on us when it got too toasty from the crowd and lights.

Ronald felt super refreshed after he pulled out a massive 6-foot McDonalds straw from his jumpsuit, and used it as a beer bong to drink a Corona. Ronald did try to make it a bit more tropical in the venue, but crowd surfing on a giant hamburger intertube along with the local Mesa McDonalds employee of the month. But things did get weird when a 6’5 radioactive lizard came out for a harmonica solo when the band played “The Lizard” a parody of “The Wizard” by Black Sabbath.

They really tried to get the crowd to shed a tear when they played “Bread” the ballad known as “Beth” to Kiss fans. Once again the band did not fail to disappoint at all. They truly always perform with such high energy, and have the best puns to fit into the entire set or round of songs that they’ll be playing. Make sure you see their “super-sized” show next time they hit a McDonalds near you.
