Justified: City Primeval Teaser Trailer Takes Raylan Givens to Motor City

FX has released the Justified: City Primeval teaser trailer. The sequel series sees Raylan Givens return to the small screen and find himself in Detroit City as our favorite U.S. Marshall strays from Kentucky to a different landscape but sees the same troubles awaiting him. The teaser doesn’t reveal much but a glimpse of Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens sporting his signature cowboy hat is enough to get fans excited for the upcoming miniseries.

The original series Justified was adapted from a short story Fire in the Hole by Elmore Leonard which is also what inspired the sequel miniseries as it is adapted from another short story City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. The series was developed for television by Dave Andron and Michael Dinner who will also series as showrunners. The series takes place fifteen years after the events that unfolded in the original series and finds Raylan with his daughter and after an encounter on a Florida highway, he finds himself in Motor City.

The series synopsis reads:

“Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit.

There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who’s already slipped through the fingers of Detroit’s finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell’s lawyer, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught in between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.”

The series is led by Olyphant with the remaining cast including Vivian Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis Hall, Marin Ireland, Norbert Leo Butz, Victor Williams, and Ravi Patel.

Justified: City Primeval will premiere on FX on July 18, 2023.
