James Earl Jones Retires From Voicing Darth Vader, Signs Off on A.I. Recreations of Iconic Voice
The iconic actor who has lent their voice to one of the most known characters in entertainment is set to retire from the role. James Earl Jones looks to sign off his rights for A.I. recreations of his voice role as Darth Vader. Vanity Fair reported that his voice had previously worked on helping make Jones’ voice in Disney+‘ Obi-Wan Kenobi series sound as it did when he voiced the role during the original trilogy of Star Wars films.
As his voice changed over the years, he now looks to step away from the character and allow Disney to continue to use his voice to give life to the most feared character in the Star Wars galaxy.

The Ukrainian firm will develop an A.I. that will build the character’s voice from the archived voice-over work Jones has built as Lucasfilm develops the solution to Jones’ irreplaceable voice as Darth Vader. Respeecher earned the faith of Lucasfilm due to being able to “re-create the unforgettably menacing way that Jone, now 91, sounded half a lifetime ago.”
Jones has long-held the role of Vader since he initially voiced the character in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope. The character has gotten the voice-over treatment from others in different adaptations and to no fault of theirs, nobody can capture the vocal dominance that Jones emulated during his time as Darth Vader and to Respeecher‘s credit, they were able to capture the unequivocal likeness of Jones’ voice work as Darth Vader.
