Dust to Dust: Giant Generator and Image Comics Take Readers Into the Great Depression in New Series
Fan-favorite co-creators of Wanted, JG Jones and Phil Bram have joined forces once again, this time for the historical thriller, Dust to Dust. Set in the devastating era of the Great Depression, this upcoming 10-issue limited series is the next series coming out of the partnership between Giant Generator imprint at Image Comics.
In the midst of the darkest days of the Great Depression, as the Dust Bowl engulfs the Oklahoma panhandle with relentless dust storms, the town of New Hope finds itself haunted by an ominous presence. Desperate to escape the clutches of death, the farmers of New Hope attempt to flee but find their efforts futile. Sheriff Meadows, battling his own personal demons, joins forces with Sarah, a traveling photo journalist, in a race against time to confront the malevolence that rides the Dusters.

JG Jones reflects on the inspiration behind Dust to Dust:
“As a child, I was captivated by the stories of those who endured the hardships of the Great Depression and survived the American Dust Bowl. The unimaginable struggles caused by rapid modernization, politics, war, and unchecked greed shook me to the core.
The towering walls of dust that obliterated everything in their path, the crackling rods of static electricity claiming the lives of cattle, and swarms of hungry jackrabbits that engulfed the land—they all seemed like apocalyptic nightmares. Shellshocked veterans, mutilated and wandering the lonely highways, searching for sustenance and shelter. Entire communities uprooting their meager possessions in search of a better life.
I wondered how it could get any worse. And then it hit me—trapped. No escape. Death lurking within the dust storms, with New Hope directly in its crosshairs.”
Phil Bram adds:
“It feels like ages since that first meeting with Jeff. Our shared love for music, literature, and art instantly forged a connection over Dylan, John Prine, Sam Shepard, Raymond Carver, Goya, Otto Dix, and the film No Country For Old Men. But it was when I revealed my Oklahoma roots that Jeff’s eyes truly sparkled. He presented me with this incredible concept—telling a story set in Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, a world that exists no more.
I can see it all in his breathtaking artwork—the people, their faces, their haunting eyes. The images alone almost render words unnecessary. Jeff, my gratitude knows no bounds! You are not only my friend but also my hero. I have never witnessed such an extraordinary feat in my entire life!”
Rick Remender, the mastermind behind the Giant Generator line, shares his enthusiasm:
“I am thrilled to present Dust to Dust, the inaugural publication from Giant Generator that diverges from my own writing. When JG mentioned a serial killer amidst the chaos of the dust bowl, I was immediately hooked. And when I set eyes on the pages… it became clear that this book is something truly special.”
Prepare to be transported back in time, to an era where survival is paramount, as Dust to Dust #1 makes its way to your favorite local comic shop in May 2024.
