Dumb Money Trailer Takes Us Inside the Insane True Story of the Game StopStock Squeeze
Sony Pictures has released the Dumb Moneytrailer taking us inside the famous GameStop stock squeeze. The film is adapted from the Ben Mezrich novel titled The Antisocial Network that told the story of the 2021 event that saw the video game retailer’s stocks rise to insane amounts and changed Wall Street as we know it. At the center, we see Paul Dano portray YouTuber Keith Gill banded together the average American to turn the tables on Wall Street and skyrocketed GameStop into the “world’s hottest company.”
The official synopsis for Dumb Money reads:
Dumb Money is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world’s hottest company.
In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill, who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich – until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.
Starring alongside Dano is Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Sebastian Stan, and Shailene Woodley. The film was directed by Craig Gillespie from a script written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. The film is produced by Aaron Ryder, Teddy Schwarzman, and Gillespie with Michael Heimier, John Friedberg, Johnny Holland, Andrew Swett, Rebecca Angelo, Kevin Ulrich, Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss, Mezrich and Schuker Blum executive producing.
Dumb Money will premiere in theaters on September 22, 2023.
