Conor McGregor Making Acting Debut in Road House Remake

MGM’s reboot film of Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal alongside Daniela Melchor, and Billy Magnussen. The film was recently confirmed to be making headway, and the film was confirmed to be coming to Prime Video with Doug Liman directing. The cast seems to be adding some punching power as former UFC champion Conor McGregor will be making his on-screen debut in the upcoming reboot film. Gyllenhaal, Melchor, Magnussen, and Mcgregor will be joined by Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, and Bob Menery.

The original 1989 film starred Patrick Swayze as a career bouncer who goes in and cleans up otherwise disastrous roadside bars and whips them into shape. He winds up in a roadside bar in Missouri which puts him toe-to-toe with a corrupt businessman from who he must protect the town. The film was helmed by Rowdy Herrington.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios shared their thoughts on having a film of this caliber joining Prime Video, saying:

“Road House is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie. We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.”

Liman chimed in saying:

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

The film was originally set to be rebooted a few years ago with Ronda Rousey attached to star, but the film never saw much movement and was canceled back in 2016. No plot details have been revealed so we are not sure how close to the source material of the original film they will be sticking to, but Gyllenhaal is a fantastic talented guy and with him in the leading role, I can see this film putting something worthwhile out for fans.

Who Mcgregor will play in the film is unknown but this will not be a cameo appearance and he will be playing an original character. The Road House reboot currently does not have a release but production is set to begin this month with a release date to be announced in the future. Stay tuned for more updates.
