X-Men ’97 Showrunner Beau DeMayo Fired Ahead of Series Premiere
THR has reported that showrunner and executive producer Beau DeMayo has been fired just before the series premiere of X-Men ’97 on Disney+ on March 20. This news comes as a surprise due to its proximity to the show’s premiere, with DeMayo reportedly preparing for interviews and the red-carpet premiere in Hollywood just before the sudden split.

According to THR, the separation between Marvel and DeMayo occurred early last week, leading to the abrupt departure of the showrunner, who had been actively engaging with fans through his now-deleted Instagram account.
X-Men ’97, a continuation of the acclaimed ’90s series X-Men: The Animated Series which aired from 1992-1997. The series will see new and returning voices in the series with the cast including Ray Chase, Gui Agustini, Jennifer Hale, George Buza, Matthew Waterson, Lenore Zann, Holly Chou, Billy Dodd, Alison Sealy-Smith, A.J. LoCascio, Isaac Robinson Smith, and Adrian Hough.
The series is still scheduled to debut with two episodes on Disney+ next week, despite the unexpected change in leadership. DeMayo was involved in Season 1 and 2 of X-Men ’97 as well as Moon Knight and the upcoming MCU film Blade.

The reason behind DeMayo’s departure has not been disclosed, leaving us with questions regarding the situation. Nonetheless, X-Men ’97 is still going to drop on Disney+ on March 20th, 2024.
