HBO’s The Last of Us Series Casts Kaitlyn Dever as Abby

HBO recently revealed that Kaitlyn Dever will be joining the cast of The Last of Us series as Abby, a “skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those who loved.”

Known for her notable performances in Justified, Last Man Standing, Dopesick, Booksmart, and No One Will Save You, Dever is set to play a significant role in Season 2 and potentially beyond as one of the most complex characters in video games.

Based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, the series is set twenty years into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection, which causes its hosts to transform into zombie-like creatures and collapse society. Following Joel, a smuggler turned caretaker of Ellie who is tasked with transporting the young girl through the dangerous world as she holds humanity’s last hope.

The series’ co-creators, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, emphasized their dedication to finding world-class actors who can truly embody the essence of the characters from the source material.

In a joint statement, they expressed their excitement in welcoming Dever to the cast, alongside Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, and Anna Torv. Dever’s addition as an antagonist to Pascal and Ramsey promises to add a new layer of complexity to the already beloved and acclaimed series.

In addition to Dever’s introduction, fans can anticipate more thrilling elements in Season 2. Co-creator Mazin teased the appearance of more clickers, while Druckmann promised an increase in intensity and bloodshed. For those familiar with the events of The Last of Us 2, the casting of Abby sets the stage for an exciting and potentially heartbreaking journey in the upcoming season.
