If you’re a fan of supernatural thrillers with a bite, Ruxy Vampire is a comic you’ll want to sink your teeth into — and it’s currently live on Kickstarter for its second issue.
Created as the first spinoff of the Spectress & Sabanion universe (a growing supernatural world dubbed the “Sandsverse”), Ruxy Vampire introduces readers to Ruxandra “Ruxy” Tepes, the rebellious granddaughter of Vlad Dracula himself. But don’t expect another moody, aristocratic bloodsucker — Ruxy is something different. She’s a Cel Rau — a rare-born vampire, not a turned one, closer to humanity, and hated by just about everyone for it.

The first issue sets the tone with a solid mix of gothic horror and gritty historical fantasy. After fleeing persecution in late 1880s London, Ruxy and her brother Marku literally turn to stone in the sunlight — a desperate act for survival. When they wake decades later in 1926 Chicago, the fish-out-of-water setup explodes into a wild Prohibition playground of bootleggers, gangsters, demons, and shady speakeasies.
It’s a fun, bloody romp that proudly wears its influences: You can feel the fingerprints of series like American Vampire and Nottingham, and even a touch of Boardwalk Empire or Spartacus in the storytelling. There’s a lot of grit, a lot of danger, and just enough sex appeal to keep things spicy without veering into full-on exploitation.
The artwork leans into bold lines and atmospheric shadows — perfect for a story that’s part horror, part crime noir. It’s stylish without being overpolished, which fits the era and the tone. Character designs are expressive and distinct, and the action sequences have a raw, kinetic feel that captures the chaos of back-alley brawls and demonic showdowns.

The second issue promises to turn the heat up even more. Ruxy’s gambling problem and thirst for excitement drag her deeper into the criminal underworld — and it’s not just gangsters she’s dealing with. Demons and supernatural players start to move in the background, hinting at bigger threats lurking beyond the barrel of a Tommy gun. There’s a particularly memorable speakeasy scene that captures the decadence and danger of the era perfectly — it’s wild, chaotic, and bloody in all the right ways.
Ruxy Vampire is shaping up to be a hell of a ride — a fast, fun, and thrilling mashup of supernatural horror and Prohibition-era crime drama. If you like your vampires dangerous, your fantasy a little messy, and your historical settings dripping with atmosphere, this is one to watch.
With its fast pace, sexy grit, and unique lore, Ruxy Vampire deserves a spot on your pull list — or at least a look on Kickstarter while the campaign is live HERE!
