Poltergeist TV Series in Early Development at Amazon
Amazon Studios has announced that they are in early development of a Poltergeist TV series. Poltergeist found life as a 1980s Steven Spielberg film which he directed and co-wrote. Just in time for Halloween, Variety reported that the TV series is in the works from Amazon MGM Studios. No writers or details on the plot of the series have been revealed but it is said the TV series will remain within the world of the films and will be executive produced by Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey who also produced the 1982 film.

This project is a result of Amazon’s acquisition of MGM Studios, which granted them access to a vast library of content. With their $9 billion investment, Amazon is determined to bring back some of the studio’s most well-known properties. Earlier this year, plans were announced for reboots of RoboCop and Stargate.
Poltergeist has had a rich history since its original release. The 1982 film spawned two direct sequels and later, in the ’90s, Showtime developed a TV series called Poltergeist: The Legacy, which aired four seasons. This series focused on the dedicated investigators who assisted families plagued by supernatural disturbances. In 2015, an official big-screen reboot of the concept was directed by Gil Kenan.

Stay tuned as more information is revealed on the Poltergeist TV series.
