Monkey Man Trailer Delivers Brutal and Action-Packed Look at Dev Patel’s Directorial Debut Film

Dev Patel‘s directorial debut Monkey Man has certainly come a long way since its initial announcement in 2018. Originally set to be released via Netflix, the Mumbai-set action thriller has now found a new home with a theatrical release date of April 5, 2024, through Jordan Peele‘s Monkeypaw and Universal Pictures.

The new trailer showcases Patel in the lead role as Kid, an impoverished young man who becomes a masked underground fighter and sets out to challenge the criminal elite of Mumbai with the inspiration of the mythical monkey god.

This fusion of action-packed scenes reminiscent of the John Wick films and the influence of Hindu mythology, particularly the deity Hanuman, promises an intriguing cinematic experience.

Patel not only directs but also co-writes the script, showcasing his multifaceted talents. The film boasts a diverse and talented cast, including Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande.

Jordan Peele’s recognition of its theatrical potential was the driving force behind the transition of “Monkey Man” from Netflix to Universal Pictures. From what we can see in the trailer, Peele was certainly not wrong in this regard and the film looks to bring an action-packed film to the silver screen.
