Crunchyroll Announces Kaiju No. 8 Anime Series
At New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll announced the anime series, Kaiju No. 8. This monstrous series will be available for streaming exclusively on Crunchyroll in Spring 2024, with subbed and dubbed versions available for fans worldwide in over 200 countries. Kaiju No. 8 takes place in a world where kaiju wreaks havoc on humanity and follows a group of characters as they navigate the aftermath of these destructive encounters.

The animation for the series is done by Production I.G, known for their work on PSYCHO-PASS and GHOST IN THE SHELL. Additionally, Studio Khara, responsible for the artwork and design in Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition and Shin Godzilla, provides kaiju artwork and design supervision for Kaiju No. 8. The anime is adapted from the original manga created by Naoya Matsumoto. The voice cast for the Japanese version includes Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino / Kaiju No. 8, Wataru Katoh as Reno Ichikawa, and Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro.

During the Crunchyroll Industry Panel, a special message from Matsumoto was shared with fans attending NYCC. Matsumoto expressed his hopes that the manga will inspire readers in the face of a challenging world, ultimately bringing a little brightness into their futures. He eagerly anticipates the reactions from fans when the anime begins airing globally next year.
Kaiju No. 8 follows the story of Kafka Hibino, who aspires to join the Japan Defense Force to fight against the kaiju. Circumstances lead Kafka to work for Monster Sweeper, Inc., a company specializing in cleaning up the aftermath of kaiju battles. However, his passion is reignited when he meets Reno Ichikawa, a determined individual set on joining the Defense Force. This encounter sparks Kafka’s desire to stand by his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro, who is now the Captain of the Defense Force’s 3rd Division.
