The Writer: Dark Horse Comics and Josh Gad Team Up for New Comic Series
Dark Horse Comics is set to release the first in an all-new four-issue comic miniseries featuring an all-star creative team. The series, titled The Writer, is a collaboration between actor/singer Josh Gad (Frozen), creative storytellers Ben and Max Berkowitz (The Forever House), Marvel artist Ariel Olivetti, and letterer Frank Cvetkovic (Count Crowley).
In The Writer, the fantastical elements of cultural folklore intertwine with the real-life challenges of the creative process, creating a story that is both unique and familiar. The series introduces readers to Stan Siegel, an established storyteller known for his heroic and fantastical comic book stories.
However, his life takes an unexpected and dark turn when he is plunged into a Nazi occult-fueled nightmare. As Stan’s hunger for answers unveils hidden identities amid demonic chaos and high-speed chases, he becomes compelled to stop the rising tide of terror by becoming the hero from his own pages.
Josh Gad expressed his enthusiasm for the project, describing it as a celebration of personal stories that entertain and resonate on a deeper level while reflecting rich heritage and diverse forms of heroism.
Benjamin Berkowitz also shared his excitement, emphasizing that “The Writer” is a tribute to the rich tapestry of cultural folklore, the pioneers of the comic book industry, and the blockbuster adventures that shaped their childhood.
Max Berkowitz added that the series is a childhood dream realized, free of distractions, and invites readers on an exhilarating, laugh-filled journey through fantastical dreams.
Artist Ariel Olivetti, on the other hand, expressed pride in the project, highlighting the lasting impression it has left on him and his anticipation for its future.
