Class Is In Session for Dark Horse’s Upcoming Graphic Novel Sparks Volume 1: Portals
Sparks Volume 1: Portals is an exciting new magical series brought to you by Dark Horse Comics. This LGBTQ+ coming-of-age fantasy tale, initially a webcomic by Revel Guts, will be available in a print edition from Dark Horse Books starting next year.

Set in a world that has risen from the ashes of destruction, the survival of human society hinges on its intricate alliance with the magical Satyr.
Philo, a student at the academy, has always been the least accomplished in his class, struggling to control his powerful but unruly magic. As graduation day approaches, his lack of ambition and discipline threatens to catch up with him. To make matters worse, Philo is paired with Atlas, the aloof star student, for training.
However, their training session takes an unexpected turn when Philo’s magic misfires, teleporting them both far away from home. Now, their futures rely on their ability to work together and return to the school in time.
During their journey back, Philo and Atlas discover a newfound connection that their years of studying together failed to forge. Philo begins to question if he had misunderstood Atlas all along, and wonders if their struggles to find their way home might be the start of something larger. Meanwhile, forces outside the academy are putting plans into motion that could irrevocably change both of their lives.

Revel Guts, the creator of Sparks, expressed their excitement about this passion project and partnership with Dark Horse. They hope that readers who enjoy epic fantasy storylines and immersive queer romance will derive as much joy from reading it as Guts had in creating it.
Class is in session when Sparks Volume 1: Portals arrives everywhere books are sold on July 16, 2024, and at your favorite local comic shops on July 17, 2024.
