At the center of the story is the awakening of the Goetic pantheon, as Lucifer prepares to rise again and wage war against God. But things don’t go according to plan.

After a clash with Archangel Michael, Belial — the King of Envy — is forced into a human form, stripped of his full power and cast into a world on the brink of chaos. Meanwhile, an arcane barrier seals Earth off from Heaven, leaving angels unable to intervene as demonic forces begin to take hold.

With humanity caught in the middle, Envy asks a compelling question:
Can a demon defy its nature and fight to save the very souls it was meant to corrupt?

Drawing from the Ars Goetia — a historical grimoire cataloging demons and their attributes — Envy builds its world on mythological and religious foundations. These figures, referenced in biblical texts, Kabbalah, and occult history, are reimagined here in a modern, action-driven narrative filled with conflict, betrayal, and moral ambiguity.

Envy is the latest project from Austin Light, founder of American Demon Comics, an indie publishing label launched in 2022. With a focus on supernatural storytelling and emotionally grounded narratives, Light brings a personal and unfiltered creative vision to the project.

“I’ve always dreamed of creating fiction… so instead of fighting for space in industries that might not want me, I built my own,” Light explains. “With Envy, I wanted to create a bold, continuous world rooted in lore and driven by intense, shōnen-inspired storytelling.”

Influenced by years of studying demonology, angelic mythology, and personal experiences within the Appalachian church, Light crafts Envy as a demonic civil war story with both epic scale and emotional depth.
