After years of silence in the shadows, Dark Darkness has officially returned, and fans wasted no time proving the cult-favorite horror-comedy still has bite. The Kickstarter campaign for Dark Darkness issues #1–3 launched this week and rocketed past its funding goal in under two hours, signaling a triumphant comeback for the supernatural series.

Created by filmmaker and storyteller Ben Eisner and written by Wilson Large, Dark Darkness mixes horror, fantasy, and absurdist comedy with the chaotic energy of a late-night cult classic. Illustrated by a powerhouse lineup that includes Ben Hansen, Alonso Molina, Nimesh Morarji, and Cassie Anderson, the series pulls inspiration from fan favorites like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Army of Darkness, and The Venture Bros. while carving out its own weird, wonderful niche.
A Misfit Crew, A Demon Conspiracy, and a Whole Lot of Chaos
The comic follows a ragtag group of supernatural oddballs: Ronald, Mordecai, Ganamazol, and Jerry the Snakeman, along with their perpetually overwhelmed RPG dungeon master. When the crew is framed for murder, they are forced into a world-ending conspiracy involving an ancient demon, relentless pursuers, and more monster-infused mayhem than they can blast their way out of.

Equal parts dark fantasy and dysfunctional buddy comedy, the series is a love letter to tabletop gaming, 80s adventure films, and the scrappy charm of cult-classic genre storytelling.
“As the four Dark Lords uncover more about the murder they are accused of, they end up putting aside their petty differences and even their murderous urges toward each other,” Large said. “Doorman, Thuggy, and Acadia have not stopped chasing them, and the battles that unfold in issue #3 barely fit within the panels. Seeing fans old and new rally around the campaign so quickly has been incredible. This project has always been about having fun in the dark, and now we get to bring that chaos back to life in print.”

A Multiverse of Darkness
Dark Darkness has evolved far beyond its origins. Originally conceived as a serial stage play written by Ben Eisner, the franchise expanded into a four-episode web series written, produced, and directed by Wilson Large that serves as a prequel introducing each of the main characters. A feature film is currently in development, and the comic adapts the screenplay while continuing the story where the web series left off. Fans can watch the original series on YouTube.
The universe does not stop there. D4 Productions LLC and Wilson Large are developing additional stories across spinoffs, webcomics, tabletop gaming, novels, and even VR experiences.
With its fast-funding success and an ever-growing fanbase, Dark Darkness is poised to bring its chaotic brand of supernatural comedy to a whole new generation of readers and possibly new viewers in the future. Check it out on Kickstarter HERE!
